So a study reveals that children see David and Victoria Beckham a.k.dumb and dumber, thick and thin etc. as their number one rolemodels. What a sad state of affairs we have in this country when children aspire to be like people whose careers have a shelf life of less than a can of beans.
The survey amongst schoolchildren mirrors that of older kids in their aspirations to follow and copy so called celebrities whose only claim to fame is that they are often seen staggering out of clubs, drunk, having babies before they have grown up and living a life which owes much to material fix rather than any mental or spiritual base.
The ‘instant’ generation, who long to be on ‘tele’ and appear on the endless line of reality TV shows is reflected by the people on this list. Many of those on it are products of the instant fame culture or reality TV programmes. It is a sad fact that the media would rather parade the antics of drunk and disorderly nobodies rather than promote proper rolemodels who have actually achieved something that has required them to use their god given brain.
Of course some will argue that those who find fame often use their limited abilities to good use and have made money. That is indeed the case but all too often these people have made money at the expense of being ridiculed. They have been managed and ‘guided’ by others who equally profit from their client’s stupidity. Taking their clothes off, being a social experiment, dropping out of nightclubs without knickers on are the hallmarks of a wasteful trend that is leading a generation astray.
The future of our society and country depends on producing well balanced children. What is worrying still is the fact that so called parents are happily accommodating their children’s short term ambitions under the guise of responsible parents. I am appalled by the number of people you see at these reality shows where dumb parents accompany their children and speak about the dream they always had. Most of them are 16/17 years for Gods sake. Teach them a little more and explain them that there is more to life than belting out a few cover songs and dressing like a whore to get noticed.
There is little prospect of a future where we will be leading from the front on socio-economic, political or sporting life when far too many of our youngsters are self destructing thanks to their dimwit parents.
