Woolly comes out of the woodwork

Whatever happened that ghastly man who was responsible for concreting over much of our green isles, said the old lady only a month ago. I could have taken a stab in the dark and named any number of incompetent new Labour ministers (John Prescott came to mind first-naturally) though Phil Wollas was not one of them.

Woolly Woolas is now, I understand the Environment Minister. He was useless at the best of times when he had the Local Government brief and his recent comments suggest there has been little change. Imagine my sentiments at hearing him talk about ‘Muslim inbreeding’ this week, a subject so far removed from his current brief one wonders if his head is buried in the concrete that covers much of the countryside (wishful thinking I know!)

Whilst there is some validity in what he has said from a medical viewpoint, he has irresponsibly, made it a Muslim issue. There may be cases of the Pakistani community in his constituency where there is a historical pull towards marrying first cousins (a practice that is not illegal in the UK). However, Woolly Woolas is giving the impression that somehow it is so widespread that it warrants a national debate. This is further evidence of the lack of understanding, sensitivity and responsibility exercised by those we elect to serve us.

What could have possibly prompted Wolly Woolas to come out with such ill-thought comments? One can only assume that the rural affairs brief doesn’t offer Wolly the attention he craves and needs a wider remit possibly one which requires an expert knowledge of the communities. Saying that, did he not serve as the Race Relations Minister?
